Prince William County recently completed a beautification project in the Potomac District, the latest accomplishment under the county's ongoing Beautification Initiative Program. This effort underscores the county's commitment to enhancing the beauty, character and overall appeal of public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
The Beautification Initiative, unanimously approved by the Board of County Supervisors, provides funding to each magisterial district to support landscaping enhancements across the county. Following positive feedback from the seven projects completed in Fiscal Year 2024, the Board expanded the program to fund an additional seven projects in both Fiscal Years 2025 and 2026. These continued investments reflect Prince William County's long-term commitment to maintaining attractive, vibrant and welcoming public spaces.
"I'm so excited about this project because I hope our residents will understand and embrace the beauty—not just the quality of life, but the natural beauty—that we have here in the Potomac District," said Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey. " I think what this does is it brings an element of pride to the entire county."
The Potomac Beautification Project focused on enhancements along Route 1, just north of the front gate at Marine Corps Base Quantico, extending from Joplin Road to Maureen Caddigan Way. The project aligned with the Triangle Small Area Plan and emphasized both aesthetic appeal and environmental sustainability.
As part of this effort, two new landscaped beds were installed featuring a diverse mix of Virginia native trees and shrubs. The installation includes deciduous and shade trees, including River Birch, Redtwig Dogwood, Maple, Redbud and Oak species, selected for their resilience and environmental benefits. Complementing these plantings are perennial plants and ornamental grasses, providing year-round beauty and habitat support.
To further promote environmental stewardship, two educational pollinator signs were added to the site, highlighting the county's commitment to native landscaping and the importance of supporting pollinators and biodiversity.
